My Story and Current Training Goals

In the spring of 2013 I graduated from Northeastern University with a BSBA and concentrations in Finance and Accounting.  Shortly thereafter, I began working for a Boston-based real estate investment firm as a Financial Analyst and continue to work in that role today.  Although I hold a degree in business and work in real estate, I’ve always had a passion for health and fitness and place a healthy lifestyle atop my list of priorities, along with family and friends.  For the past few years, I’ve casually entertained the thought of pursuing a certification in personal training.  It wasn’t until this past June that I decided to go for it and began pursuing my certification with the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM).  The amount of information that I’ve learned about exercise and the human body in the past few months is staggering, and this is only the beginning of this journey.

In the past, I was the stereotypical “bro” who would train their beach muscles with a high intensity and only train legs for the sake of maintaining physical balance.  Over time my training style evolved to a bodybuilding/powerlifting style, focusing on muscular hypertrophy and maximal strength.  Although this is still the cornerstone of my training today, the knowledge that I’ve received through studying for my NASM-CPT (and a wake-up call at the Amesbury, MA Spartan Race this summer) has helped me to widen my perspective on the benefits of other types of training, like flexibility, plyometric, balance, and speed, agility and quickness.  I now try to incorporate as much variety in my training as possible in order to become a well-rounded athlete, while maintaining a focus on muscular hypertrophy and maximal strength.
